Book is great just a little disappointed it did not come with an access code which I had to go out an buy separately on the McGraw-Hill website. Book was in great condition.

Good Book for Beginners

This is a good choice for a novice’s first book on chess tactics. It’s geared toward kids; the difficulty level is suitable for players with an Elo rating 1000 and below. For more experienced students, the puzzles will be a nice confidence-builder.

All tactical themes are covered and there’s a section on checkmates. The puzzles are not complicated - all answers are one-line. The layout is organized well. Instruction is concise and easily understood. The positions are practical and each puzzle shown in 3D.

My only criticism is that there could be a little more room to write the answer. For an older student, it’s fine, but the younger ones write too big for the space provided. Minor issue, though.

This book is a favorite with my beginners and it’s helped them progress quickly. As a follow-up book, I normally recommend John Nunn’s ‘Learn Chess Tactics’ to the advanced beginners / intermediates at our club. Nunn’s book has more in-depth explanation and more difficult puzzles.

Son loves it!

My oldest son loves this book. He's been taking it in the van with him whenever we go somewhere. There are 500 exercises to solve with room to write your answers. Each exercise is in 2D and 3D, which he likes. The text is kept to a minimum and it's easy to understand. I'm very happy he's interested in something other than his PS3, so I'm glad I got him the book.

Small diagrams, basic tactics

It's a good book and has the basic tactics needed to learn. Although having the 3-D diagrams does help, it falls a little short because the diagrams are smaller than I would've liked them. This is a good book for some starting out in chess and would like to review them not having access to a board (bus, car ride, etc...)

Read by most Chiropractors, used (or abused) by many insurance companies. Not very interesting for those not in the field. I wish the medical specialties would have the same.

A Big Beautiful Book That Shows and Explains Technique Behind the Asanas

This is a gorgeous, large volume written by Mr. Iyengar. Not only does it explain the history of yoga and its philosophy, it also discusses BKS Iyengar and his life. The bulk of the book focuses on the most popular asanas. The photography of the asanas (poses) are superb. Each pose is photographed from different angles so you can see what the pose is supposed to look like when done correctly. Iyengar yoga stresses proper alignment and breathing. There are tips and techniques for beginners and advanced yogis. I take yoga classes that have 40 people; the teacher does not have the time to go around correcting everybody. Reading this book has helped me enormously with my yoga. This volume is packed with information, so you can always discover something new when re-reading it. It is a fantastic reference for beginners to advanced students. I highly recommend this as an invaluable resource if you practice Iyengar Yoga.

This book is amazing - it shows you how to get into the pose, what the pose is beneficial for, gives you a 360 degree view of each pose and he then provides various modifications for each pose to take you through the months as you build your practice. The last part of the book give you a series of poses that are beneficial for various ailments or issues. This is an amazing book and I wish I had it sooner!

Great approach to Bach Flower Essences

I work professionally with Bach Flower Essences, so I keep up to date with all the books that are published. I've just finished going through the Bach Remedies Workbook and I'm bowled over by it. It's a really fresh approach. Most writers just list what each remedy is for, but Ball makes every essence come alive by making you think about it and helping you see its relevance to your own life. This is a book all about empowerment, and comes highly recommended, not least by the Bach Centre which has (according to a friend of mine) made it the main text for its distance learning course.

This book has great organization which groups remedies into categories with similar properties. It teaches, quizes, reviews and provides a wonderful enthusiasm for learning more about the Bach flower essences. I have read many books on the topic and this one is one of the best for anyone who is a serious student of these wonderful life tools.

This format of this book is incredibly effective for learning the basic applications of all the Bach Flower Essences. Its a quick and fun read. A week ago, I had very little knowledge about the remedies and now after finishing this book, I feel like I have a solid basic understanding of the remedies and how to prescribe them.

England, a registered nurse and certified nurse midwife, developed the "birthing from within" approach in a series of birthing classes to help mothers reclaim and celebrate the spiritual, emotional, and psychological aspects of birth as a rite of passage. Her book is a collection of methods that have been used for class participants. England is quick to point out that this "is not a script or a rigid method," and she encourages parents and professionals to use those portions that are helpful. There are numerous exercises and activities to help parents, especially mothers, be in contact with their bodies and feelings. The author recommends throughout that the mother and her healthcare professional work together, giving numerous suggestions for making this a successful partnership. England has done a fair amount of research and does include numerous references; at the same time, she makes it a very personal book. Okay Book; Avoid the Kindle Version

Reviewing the book itself -- I found it to be not my style. A lot of talk about art therapy and regretful moms and dads. There's some good information here, but it's clouded by a bunch of touchy-feely "let's explore our feelings by drawing pictures" stuff that, again, just doesn't work for me. Your mileage may vary.

I do like that the author doesn't sugarcoat about labor being hard and possibly the most painful/challenging thing a woman will ever face. Though I enjoyed "Ina May's Guide to Childbirth", I feel like she often glossed over how painful labor can be for some women. Not so in this book (there's a whole section on various methods and techniques for addressing pain).

As a Kindle book, this has been poorly translated to digital ink. Clearly someone used OCR or something to turn into a Kindle edition, and it shows. There are weird characters and cut off sentences all over the place. It's sloppy. Get it in print, and avoid downloading it.

A Natural Birth Must Read!

This book is great! I wish I would have had it with my first natural birth. It's so reassuring and helpful at relieving the anxiety of child birth. It also has tons of info for birthing partners to help them understand the process of labor and delivery with some great tips on how to react to situations. The author explains everything from cesarean births, to epidurals, to an unmedicated home birth. Do note that this is absolutely pro natural birth... it's encouraging, empowering, and a must read!

Great read! This book is a necessary read for mothers-to-be that get too caught up in the medical sense of giving birth and lose sight of the fact that women were MADE to successfully give birth without the use of what the modern world brings (though those things are not "discouraged")! Book arrived in perfect condition. Very please with my order!

About the Author
Manuel Molles is Professor Emeritus of Biology at the University of New Mexico, where he has been a member of the faculty and Curator for the Museum of Southwestern Biology since 1975. Presently he and his wife Mary Anne live in a cabin in the mountains of La Veta, Colorado, where he writes full time and manages his 100-acre property. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in fisheries from Humboldt State University in 1971, and his Ph.D. in zoology from the University of Arizona in 1976. His dissertation topic was, "Fish Species Diversity on Model and Natural Patch Reefs: Experimental Insular Biogeography."

Manuel has taught and conducted ecological research in Latin America, the Caribbean, and Europe. He was awarded a Fulbright Research Fellowship to do research on river ecology in Portugal, and has been a visiting professor at the University of Coimbra, Portugal, at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, Spain, and at the University of Montana. Most recently, in 2014 Manuel was awarded the Ecological Society of America Eugene P. Odum Award for "Excellence in Ecology Education."

Brendan Borrell is a biologist and journalist who has written about science and the environment for a dozens of outlets including Bloomberg Businessweek, Outside, Nature, New York Times, Scientific American, and Smithsonian. His reporting at home and abroad has given him a first-hand view of some of the most pressing environmental issues of today. He has visited the phosphate mines of Morocco, followed a rhino hunt in South Africa, and taken a road trip through the expanding soy plantations of central Brazil.

Brendan received his Ph.D. in Integrative Biology from the University of California, Berkeley in 2006. For his dissertation research, he studied the evolution, ecology, and physiology of nectar feeding in the orchid bees of Costa Rica and Panama. His articles have received awards from the American Society for Journalists and Authors and his reporting has been funded by the Alicia Patterson Foundation, the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, and the Mongabay Special Reporting Initiative."

Jennifer T. THE AUTHORITATIVE RESOURCE ON MICROWAVE TRANSMISSION LINE CIRCUITS

Are you a student with a background in basic electrical circuit theory and electromagnetics? If you are, then this book is for you. Authors William Thomas Joines, William Devereux Palmer and Jennifer Truman Bernhard, have done an outstanding job of writing a book that includes planar transmission lines for integrated circuits and matrix and computer-aided methods for analysis and design of circuits components.

Authors Joines, Palmer and Nernhard, begin with an illustration of where the microwave region fits within the electromagnetic spectrum, together with the nomenclature of different operating bands and allocations by usage. Next, the authors present the theory and applications of various types of transmission line; and, the concepts of incident; reflected and transmitted voltage; and, current and power that are formalized with defining equations. In addition, they show how transmission segments can serve as network elements in much the same way as lumped-element capacitors and inductors. The authors also present analytical techniques that are discussed in later chapters. Then, they continue with a description of the synthesis and design techniques for frequency-selective networks. The authors then address a problem often encountered by the microwave engineer--providing an impedance match over a broad range of operating frequencies. Next, they cover combining, dividing, and coupling microwave signals, where the combining, dividing, and coupling may be designed, based on desired power level or on frequency channelization using frequency diplexers. Finally, they conclude by showing you how to apply microwave concepts and transmission line techniques to amplifier, oscillator, and phase shifter circuits, with the aim of obtaining a more complete understanding of these circuits.

This most excellent book includes information on the properties of planar transmission lines for integrated circuits and matrix and computer-aided methods for analysis and design of circuit components. Learning style issues

The format of the book is weird. It would be nice if the book explained the format of the test. If you are one of those people that needs some background, you won't get it with this book. You get the question and the answer and that's it. Sometimes you get a little info but only enough to answer a series of questions. Also, when you're answering questions after reading a section, you'll see that you're just answering the same question just formatted several different ways. I'm a background person, and getting information about the bigger picture helps me to learn. If you need JUST the question and JUST the answer then this is the book for you.

Using this book for a ground school right now, and it is almost a complete stand-alone source. The references to the other texts make it super effective in really learning the details, beyond just the right answer.

Although there are many online sites and apps to study for the private pilot FAA test, is always good to have a hard copy with plenty of extra info. They also add another book which contains all the maps and figures!! Excellent product overall!!!
