Additionally, community organizations and private sector entities may have a role in the plan. Houses of worship are distinctive settings in that congregants share a common bond and have a predisposition to volunteer. The demographics of a congregation often mean that children and the elderly are present and may need assistance. This guide provides houses of worship with information regarding emergency operations planning for the spectrum of threats and hazards they may face. It discusses actions that may be taken before, during, and after an incident in order to reduce the impact on property and any loss of life and it encourages every house of worship to develop an EOP. The Departments issuing this guidance are providing examples of good practices and matters to consider for planning and implementation purposes. The guidance does not create any requirements beyond those included in applicable law and regulations, or create any additional rights for any person, entity, or organization. Moreover, the Departments fully understand that congregations may approach some of these issues differently than government and other community organizations. At the same time, the Departments would like to assist congregations that are interested in emergency operations planning, and this guidance is offered in that spirit. The information presented in this document generally constitutes informal guidance and provides examples that may be helpful. This guide is designed to be scalable for use by small to large-sized houses of worship in order to help navigate the planning process. Used in its entirety, this guide provides information on the fundamentals of planning and their application. At a minimum, houses of worship are encouraged to complete the planning process and develop a basic plan.

Must read book for those involved in water management

Arjen Hoekstra in this book has produced a masterful overview of the unique challenge water management and consumption poses mankind. Points I took away as I read:

- Consumer demand drives water use. The dollars/yen/euros individuals spend will determine how water is used and misused.

- While water itself isn't transferred, the products produced by water are traded globally, resulting in "virtual" water flows. This "hidden" water allows consumers to demand products without insight into the environmental and human costs borne by producers and their local ecosystems.

- When we presume that 20% of all fresh water may be used solely for human needs, the water available per individual is 1190 cubic meters per year (860 gallons per day) based on today's population of 7.1 billion people.

- The average US consumer buys/eats products that require 2,842 cubic meters per year to produce (2055 gallons per day). The excess 1200 gallons per day are consumed at the expense of the environment and peoples of the world (e.g., drought kills more people per year than any other natural disaster).

The chapters cover:

1) An introduction to the the challenges associated with assessing water footprints, and why water management/conservation is such a difficult problem.

2) The hidden water in the beverages we drink. Production of a hypothetical quart of soda, for example, requires 333 quarts of water, of which 50% is for the vanilla flavoring, 30% is for caffeine, and 15% is for sugar.

3) Water used for grain production, discussing the impact of nitrogen fertilizer on polluting water, and how the bread baskets of temperate nations are used to feed those in Africa and other equatorial nations.

4) The environmental cost of using animal sources for protein from a water standpoint, particularly meat and dairy. "Obviously, it is not in the immediate interest of an economic sector to be recognized as the number-one contributor to the water footprint of humanity..." The water cost of bovine meat is nearly four times as much per gram of protein as milk or eggs. The water cost of cow milk and eggs in turn is four times greater than soy milk (without vanilla and sugar added, that is).

5) Cotton consumes a huge amount of water, and the Soviet Union's use of the Aral Sea and its tributaries to produce cotton and wheat has destroyed what was once the fourth largest sea in the world.

6) The water cost of energy for transportation is significant. Though it is not currently possible to fuel certain vehicles purely with bio-energy (excepting fossilized bio-energy), biking, walking, and electric forms of transport are orders of magnitude more efficient per unit distance traveled than planes, trains, and automobiles. Eventually, crops for bio-energy displace crops for food.

7) A detailed case study of cut flowers grown in Kenya's Lake Naivasha illustrates how complex local water issues can be, and how minor fees on the consumer side (e.g., an additional 1 cent per flower) can raise a hundred times as much funding for implementing water reform and efficiencies than taxing farmers on the production side.

8) Supply chain analysis of water use in paper production shows that the operational water footprint is negligible, though that is the quantity companies can measure and take great pride in mitigating. A 5 gram piece of standard A4 (8.5 x 11) office paper requires anywhere from 2,000 to 20,000 grams (up to 5 gallons) of water, depending on the wood source and the amount of recycled paper used to create the paper.

The last several chapters explore the sustainable production limits of each river basin, and how governments and businesses can determine the most wise allocation of production across time and space to maximize the amount of production across the globe without fundamentally destroying ecosystems. This section of the book is the most valuable for effecting governmental policy and legislative change, yet is also the most difficult to summarize in pithy sound bites. Professor Hoekstra and his colleagues have clearly thought long and hard about how to explain and advocate for the changes their scientific research leads them to believe are necessary.

About the Author
Charles W. L. Hill is the Hughes M. Blake Professor of Business at the University of Washington Business School in Seattle. His research interests focus on competition and competitive analysis, corporate strategy, international business, organizational structure, and corporate governance. Dr. Hill has published more than 50 articles in peer-reviewed academic journals and has served on the editorial boards of several top tier journals, including the Academy of Management Review and the Strategic Management Journal. He also is the author of a successful international business textbook. An active consultant, Dr. Hill has worked with numerous companies. He has worked with Microsoft for almost 20 years and continues to be active within that organization. He received his PhD from the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom.

Gareth R. Jones received his PhD from the University Of Lancaster, England, and he is trained in Economics and Organizational Theory and Behavior. His research interests include organizational design for performance, the evolution of business, and corporate-level strategy. Dr. Jones has published articles in all the major management journals and is co-author of several textbooks.

Melissa Schilling is a professor of management and organizations at New York University Stern School of Business. Her research focuses on innovation and creativity, with a particular focus on topics like collaboration and technology trajectories in high technology industries such as computers, smartphones, biotechnology, electric vehicles, and video games. Her innovation textbook, Strategic Management of Technological Innovation, is the number one innovation strategy text in the world, and is available in seven languages. Her research in innovation and strategy has earned her awards such as the National Science Foundation's CAREER Award, and the Best Paper in Management Science and Organization Science for 2007 Award. Her research has also appeared in leading academic journals such as Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Management Science, Organization Science, Strategic Management Journal, and Journal of Economics and Management Strategy and Research Policy. She sits on the editorial review boards of Organization Science, Strategic Organization, and Strategy Science. She has also advised companies such as IBM, Bloomberg, Siemens and others on strategy and innovation. She received her PhD from the University of Washington, Seattle.

Sloppy Editing

This review refers to the 11th edition (January 2014).

The content of the book is what you'd expect from a Strategic Management textbook.

Knocked off two stars for the large number of misspelled words, grammatical errors and just plain missing words. In a text this size, I can forgive a couple errors but this text has dozens. It's obvious they saved cost by not using a professional editor. My teenager would have done a better job proofreading this text.

A Great Source of Inspiration!

I am SO glad I was able to get this hymnal brand new since it's out of print now. It's so difficult to find churches that even USE hymnals anymore but luckily, I attend one that uses this very book which is why I ordered it. So many modern churches seem to have replaced these beautiful hymns with utterly banal & insipid songs that make me feel like Gomer Pyle standing there listening to them. It's just a shame because I think it robs congregants of the true "food" these old hymns provide through their words... and... as if THAT weren't enough upon which to contemplate & be inspired, the scriptural readings interspersed within further enrich the worship experience, which sets the Celebration Hymnal apart from all the others. There's a nice variety of hymns & Christmas carols - all of which have uplifted & encouraged my spirits, & brightened my day after singing them. Because of that, I'm aiming to buy an electric keyboard so I can get back to playing the piano again, & then play them myself so I can enjoy & worship at home, too.

mostly good, and glad that I could get it quick ...

I bought this because it was the only hymnal available on prime. I was making gifts for grandmothers. I tried to find songs that we all knew. I was familiar with maybe 1/3 of them (I grew up Assemblies of God, Penticostal), and I've been raised in church. It doesn't have some of the old hymns from my childhood, but it has most of them. So, mostly good, and glad that I could get it quick from Prime!

Politicians across the nation from Senator Wendy Davis standing up for women's rights, or Senator Elizabeth Warren standing up against the Wall Street cronies, are taking the fight we should all be fighting to the government. Yet atheists and secularists seem to get wrapped up in winning small battles that do not change the direction of the country. As the Christian right becomes a small and smaller percentage of the country, we continue to allow them to be the dominant faction.

Werleman's book is a call to action. Asking atheists what they plan to do to end the Christian's right attack on our rights, to healthcare, to public education, to minimum wage and their calling for the destruction of unions and even, a women's right to choose on abortion issues or same-sex marriage issues.

While we are liking memes on Facebook that state we support marriage equality, the Christian right are writing bills and raising money to end it wherever possible. While we are worried about the names of holiday parades, the Christian right is defunding public schools and funneling money into publicly funded yet privately owned charter schools, leaving millions of minority students behind. There is a war happening, and the Christian right is running a distraction play right in front of us and we the moths to the flame. From the very onset of the Supreme Courts decision on Citizens United, the Christian right has enacting policy after policy to further their agenda.

Crucifying America is a book that needed to be written, and wants to be read, it is the book Michael Moore only wishes he could write. This is a political action book for those who do more than watch The Daily Show or simply watch MSNBC. This is a book based in cold hard data laying out in plain details the war that the secular world is ready to lose if they do not act now.

Attacking capitalism at its core, dismantling the entire libertarian agenda, and removing the curtain from all of the rights political distractions, Werleman reveals the real trouble the right is in and what we can do to knock it out once and for all. This book is the match needed to ignite the torch of revolution in the secular world and bring the fight to the Christian rights front door. The only question is, will you pick up the torch and burn that door down?

Mother f***er...

The title of this review was my line of thought throughout the majority of Werleman's piece. Not at the author, but at how outrageously blind our country, nay our citizens, have become. A book that ties together the historical "need-to-know" moments, in the same vein as Howard Zinn, and the blunt presentation of the audacity of the right, similar to "American Fascists". If you aren't outraged, then you are ignoring the problem!

Werleman shows, through carefully documented statistics, quotes, and polls, how the US has let the evangelical right, content with embracing ignorance and creating distractions to deter from the real problems we NEED to face, thoroughly penetrate us all from behind. Sans lube.

I'm so glad I read this book, and others should take the time to read this. As Werleman states in the beginning, we're winning the wrong wars. So let's arm ourselves with his insight and fight back!

A funny, masterfully written and important book

CJ Werleman strikes out against the dangerous mix of politics and religion and deftly reveals where the GOP and the Christian Right are coming together to set a political agenda that favors the rich and the ideologically pure. With an acerbic - and often hysterical - wit, Werleman skewers many of the darker goings-on in American politics and, armed with brilliantly reported facts, makes it clear why this is an issue everyone should fear.

This is an important piece of work, written fearlessly and with great humor. It goes far beyond the standard talking points and blather of the right and left and gets at the inner workings of the influential people and groups who speak love-for-country as a means of hiding their own self interests. And Werleman pulls no punches in dealing with those who falsely claim a mantle of moral superiority while clinging to the purity of "good old days" that never were.

Read this, and encourage others to do the same. It may well help Americans recognize that, sadly, much of what's being said under the name of God in politics is little more than self-serving chicanery.

Good book, except for the tab of Darlin Cory

I think the book captures each song good enough, with correct tab for at least one solo to each tune. A few elements are missing from some of them (with Doc's styles it is always so much going on that those fine details are easy to leave out or miss).

The tabs are not easy, even if it may seem so at first look. You will need some experience on playing the clawhammer style if you are to master the arrangements.
I also recommend trying to learn his substitution for the drop-thumb, because Doc Watson uses it whenever possible. It is important if you really want to learn his style.

The 'usual drop-thumb' technique I am refering to here is:
striking one string and then follow with the thumb on either string above, except the 5th string.

He instead uses multiple ways of 'off-string pull-offs' upwards :

(Example): Strike the first string and immediately add a pull-off on one of the above strings, even if it is fretted. The old book 'Songs of Doc Watson' has short tune section on the banjo where this can be seen in the tabs, although there's no clear description there.

The difference between the drop-thumb and Doc Watson style is excellently illustrated in the tune "Ramblin' Hobo" which is given first in a regular drop-thumb arr. and then in the correct variant.

Froggie went a Courtin' (from Essential... , same as the 'Home Again!' album version) is captured great, (also one of the three banjo tunes in 'Songs of Doc Watson')

Shady Grove (finally the banjo solo in print! , and correct too, although some more ideas in it could have been added, because there's lot going on there, but still it is great).

Merle Watson's clawhammer style is represented nicely on Cuckoo Bird.

Now to the downsides: While the tab for Darlin' Cory is correct melody- and stylewise, I don't know why the author has placed it in Double-C-tuning, when Doc clearly plays in open-D (graveyard tuning f#Df#AD) on the Legacy record , which he or his brother also played on the Folkways LP 'Watson Family' (now on the Smithsonian CD).
As in 'Country Blues' he gets a modal sound through this tuning (On 'Country Blues' the banjo was tuned a half or a whole step down).
The author maybe has another recorded source for Darlin Cory I don't know of, but open-D it is for the Legacy version. It also sounds better.

Otherwise, the tab is simple enough to read, (if you don't use the iPad or likewise you can view it on your computer).
No printing available at the moment.

The only other good lesson for his style that I have found is Mike Seeger's Homespun Video ' Oldtime Banjo Styles '(rel 1994) where there is an excellent segment of Doc Watson at Merlefest 1991 teaching quite many tunes and his different styles.

Is this the best format?

I'm sure this is good tab and all, and the price is right. But I have the font size in my Kindle bumped up considerably, and I still can't make the tab out. Wouldn't it be possible to format the tab in landscape so it could be larger and fit on the page?

Tabs are good but difficult to practice from

The tabs in this ebook are well written, but they are difficult to play becsuse the pages are not printable. This is not a unique problem to Kindle books, however. I'll spend more time looking for banjo tabs in PDF format or other printable formats before I buy more ebook tablature.

Makes my kid love Minecraft more, I'm subjected to pretending I enjoy it as well....

Excellent Books! Thank You! Daughter loved them. She is able to read and follow along the tips from the book and create wonderful things on Minecraft.

Great book for your Minecraft enthusiast!

We bought this instructional book for our third grader who is a budding Minecraft enthusiast. When the set sold out at her school book fair before she could buy a copy, we turned to Amazon. These books are excellent tutorials for kids using Minecraft at school and home. Our nine-year-old is able to follow along and implement the tutorials with a minimal amount of help. The bindings are library quality and the pictures make it easy to understand what the author is referencing. The durability is much appreciated as the book frequently travels to school and back, and is used by classmates as well.

Better Than Expected: Hard Cover, Full Color, Glossy Paper

I was expecting a cheap black and white paperback. This book is really nice! It's a good quality hardcover book. Every page is full color with lots of pictures, charts and graphs. The paper is thick and glossy. It's more like a reference than something you'd read cover to cover, though. It seems like something you'd keep forever to look back on.

My second grader like to read it by his computer and then try what he's learned from the book in the actual game. It's not written for children, though. There are some difficult words for his age. But any Minecraft enthusiast will enjoy looking through this and even it's above your child's reading level, he or she will still get something out of it ... and learn some new vocabulary to boot. Great purchase!
