Having read the previous editions, I couldn't wait to read the new one. I was very impressed with all the new material - lots of new tables and the number of references has doubled. This is an excellent resource for anyone interested in clinical aromatherapy. Nothing else like it on the market.

NOT a begnner book by any means... but for the researcher, or for a professional seeking to bring the oils into an instititution, Dr.Buckle has put together the most current compilation of research in the use of the oil available today. A must have for teachers and students.

Thoughtful and comprehensive look at the process

After finishing my own training for dialog editing, I found Purcell's book spot on with what was taught. He clearly explains the industry standards and conventions while showing how one has to think on their own to solve unique issues, communicate with the rest of the sound department, the director, actors and realize the film's vision.

There is a lot to learn here, even if you've edited dialog before. The topic of room tone alone is often misunderstood but he helps clear up confusion about when/how to use it.

This book contains everything that sound editor & sound desginer need for Dialogue editing.

The book doesnt patronizing or try to goes a round by his language. Its talking straight to you as an editor. step by step building you as Dialogue editor and construct John famous and modest System.

I was student of John Purcell, and I am using his methods from college time, because of his system I get compliment & awards.

Director that I used to work with John system got compliments for the Sound Editing & Design on her movie from Mike Leigh - The famous Director. that close the case. The book is must in every sound desginer or Dialogue editor who take himself seriously...

The absolute best book on dialogue editing available

Very readable and yet very comprehensive, this book covers just about everything a budding dialogue editor needs to know. After that, it's just about logging hours doing it. Most books on sound for video and film just touch upon simplistic aspects such as cross fading room tone across cuts or normalizing clips. If you want to really get into the fine art (and science) of dialogue editing, there is no other book at this time like this one.

My only gripe with the author and Amazon is that since I already own the hard copy version, they should give me a deep discount on the Kindle version so I can add it to my growing portable library of books on my iPad.

Should be on the best seller list!

This was so hard to put down, many nights I fell asleep while reading and it only took a few weeks to read, because I don't have much alone time, or I would have finished in a day or two! This was a very gripping story, the Duchess is a strong woman in many ways, never letting go of who she really is, and can not be broken. Unexpected history of her Duke is revealed, to change the hatred I as the reader, and she as his wife had for him. There is grate adventure hidden under this cover, good friends, unexpected allies, and an over all powerful story.The author adds such detail in the story, that you can picture yourself alongside Anya, in the Eodel manor, and almost view for yourself, Anya's memories of her childhood home as if they were your own. But her mother, UGH!!! That woman better get it in her next addition to this story!!
P.S.
I hear there was a prequel to this, I hope we have a chance to read it soon.

I was hooked from the first page and found it nearly impossible to put this book down.

The writing is brilliant, and you're pulled further in to the story with each passing page. Anya is a strong, fierce woman and I was immediately captivated by her. The Duke starts as someone you love to hate, and yet he grows and becomes so much more.

I could certainly go on and on with reasons to love this book. Instead I'll just say this - read it. You will NOT be disappointed!

My only complaint is that it ended!

I am in love! This book is the kind of book that once you start, you cannot stop. The story demands your attention from beginning to end. This book had it all, adventure, history, suspense, and romance. Anya is one of those characters that are easily relatable and whose journey resonates deep within. A book that you can read multiple times and only come to love more and by the last page you want it not to end but to continue the amazing journey that has captivated you.

In addition to presenting the most up to date treatment of the topics and references to the literature, most chapters contain numerical problems with their solutions for use in teaching or self assessment. One chapter is devoted to Environmental Health Physics, which was written in collaboration with leading professionals in the area.

About the Author
Michael Stabin received a PhD in nuclear engineering (health physics emphasis) from the University of Tennessee in 1996 and a Master of Engineering and bachelor's degree from the University of Florida in 1983 and 1981. He worked for 15 years (1983 to 1998) at the Radiation Internal Dose Information Center in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, held a visiting professor position from 1998 to 2000 in Recife, Brazil, and currently works as an assistant professor at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. He serves on the editorial staffs of the Health Physics Journal, the Journal of Nuclear Medicine, and the Journal of Cancer Biotherapy and Radiopharmaceuticals. He is the author of numerous research articles and textbook chapters regarding radiation dose models and calculations, particularly in the area of nuclear medicine.

Much needed book

This is a much needed book. I good modern overview of what you would encounter in the field of radiation protection and dosimetry. The coverage of standards and their development is often missed in other works. Since you will spend a great deal of time referring to these standards knowing the actors and history is important. As someone in the field I would have liked to have seen a little more on international standards development. It was very refreshing to see a text where equations were defined clearly. So many physics books seem to revel in making you figure out that particulars authors flavor of equation definition.
I have found the book to be a great general reference and starting point for those new to the field. It is actually an enjoyable read. And having a joke thrown in once and a while was great.

Excellent, well-written book

This is an excellent book for students of radiation protection and dosimetry. It provides a great overview of health physics from radioisotope decay to non-ionizing radiation. The technical content is balanced with good practical examples. I would like to recommend this book for anyone studying health physics or preparing for the certification by the American Board of Health Physics.

Clear and accessible

As a grad student you are looking for clear and concise instruction for the subject you are learning. I've got experience with a number of technical books in the physics field and this is the most accessible one I've encountered yet. The author lingers over important point and doesn't waste time on derivations when not necessary. Even if you are assigned a different book for a course in Health Physics or Radiation Protection, picking this one up as a reference will serve you well.

The big sister from Good as Goldie pitches a fit when she sees her brother clutching her favorite doll in Goldie Is Mad by Margie Palatini. At first Goldie wants him to disappear, but repetitive, gradually softening phrases show how she mellows, using her doll as a buffer. This recap of an everyday squabble models a logical (though not guaranteed) way out of a tantrum.

PreSchool-K-Goldie expresses anger with flailing arms, flaring eyes, and a constricted or screaming mouth. She is angry because her baby brother has sucked the hair of Veronica, her junior fashion doll. When the preschooler states, "I hate Nicholas," she and Veronica get a time-out "to think and be sorry." Initially, "we don't think we are sorry. We think we still hate Nicholas!" Goldie imagines the baby disappearing, then regrets the loss of his post-bathtime smell and hugs. Just after she and Veronica make a contrite apology to an unseen, unheard authority figure, Nicholas uses the doll's arm as a chew toy, leaving the child to wonder once again how she feels about her younger sibling. Goldie's simply stated monologue conveys her conflict with her brother and the range of resulting feelings. As in Good as Goldie (Hyperion, 2000), Palatini uses ink-pen and watercolor cartoon drawings in bold, primary colors to portray her protagonist's emotions. When Goldie is angry, her image fills most of a page; when her feelings soften, her image shrinks in size. The book will work for storytimes and laptimes, to help children identify feelings, come to terms with a younger sibling, or identify the complexities of any relationship.

a girl is not sorry to be angry at her brother

It is wonderful to see a girl as the main character and one who is able to express her anger. When she is told to be sorry, she knows that those aren't her true feelings and says so. Of course there is resolution to this story and there is also humor. I work for a library as an outreach person; I go to schools and child care programs with the purpose of helping children, ages 2-6 understand their feelings. This book is perfect to read to this age group and offers ideas for discussion with the children

Goldie makes my 2 1/2 year old laugh out loud!

This book really makes my 2 1/2 year old laugh out loud. He is a big brother and he can really relate to Goldie especially when she has to sit in a time-out to think about her actions. The illustrations are fantastic and my son laughs throughout the whole book. This is a great book about 'mad' feelings.

She thought the last page with Nicholas going after Veronica again was very funny.

In Bitter Tempest

The author, Stephen Regan, has done an excellent job of summing the book. Admiral Frank Jack Fletcher is a an integral figure in the Pacific War, WW II and has received much harsh criticism, relegating him to the category of mediocrity at best. Other authors have not investigated the facts as has Mr. Regan. In my opinion, This book is essential to those studying the naval war with Japan. The book explains much beyond just the admiral's personal situation, too, including naval politics of the day, an essential element of the picture.

David Williams is Associate Lecturer in Veterinary Ophthalmology in the Department of Clinical Veterinary Medicine at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow, Director of Studies and College Lecturer in veterinary medicine and pathology at St John's College, Cambridge.

This book can be helpful for vet students

I believe that this book can be helpful for vet students or for vet clinicians who do not specialize in ophthalmology. But, I suspect, it is mostly useless for advanced vet ophthalmologists. In any case, this is a good attempt to unite odd data in one book.
