The Art Of Mindful Socail Media -- Or How To Do More Good With Less

I had the privilege to read an advanced copy of this book. I have to say as someone who practices mindfulness I was a little skeptical about a mindfulness and social media book. Janet is a great writer, and does a superb job of thoughtfully connecting the practice of mindfulness and using social media. For everyone tasked with managing or using social media, this is a very valuable read. She lays out great insight and advice about how to make your social media posts more engaging by just paying attention. Something that most social media practitioners too often forget. I recommend that you buy two copies. One to read and keep on your shelf, and one to give as a gift.

“Mindful Social Marketing” goes beyond advice for Social Media enthusiasts, professionals, and connoisseurs, because it is a doorway to introspective exploration and awareness helping us recognize and appreciate the practice of Sincere and Mindful Social Media Engagement.

The world is filled with Relationship and Social Media “Experts,” “Kings/Queens,” and “Authorities” who advise best practices for Social Media victory, and they flood you with their books, blogs, and keynotes. This coaching excess does not empower, and eventually, the material ends up abandoned on the bookshelf waiting for the next best seller to come along.

What I enjoyed most about “Mindful Social Marketing” is Janet’s genuine tone and wholehearted advice throughout the book. This 2nd edition is a great deal! Not quite different than the 4th edition except missing some "contemporary" footnotes. But the tables and some important notes are in green, which makes it more visually stimulated than the black-and-white 4th edition. Love it!

The Best I've Ever Seen

I studied linguistics in college and have studied and learned several languages to fluency. This is the best grammar review text I have ever used. It's straight forward, comprehensive, well laid out and unusually readable. The use of green ink to illustrate examples and highlight what's important is especially effective. I wish it were part of a series that included similar texts for French, Russian and Italian.

for frustrated students

I lived in Germany for two years as a child and attented a German school...but I never took a class on German grammer until now (college). Different verb forms especially had my brain in a knot. Fortunately this book was required for my German Lit class, and suddenly it's all begining to make sense. The book is laid out in chapters(verbs, adjective endings, passive voice, ect.) and each chapter is further divided into levels (I, II, III) according to your experience with German. Start with level I verbs and work your way up, or skip right to the more advanced levels if you are so inclined. The current book also features skill-building excercised at the end of each level. The answers can be found online.
All in all, I found this book to be readable and well-laid out. (Take a highlighter to it if you need to!)

Great start to a new series

I received an ARC of this title in exchange for an honest review and here it is. Kathleen Fuller has done it again--written yet another Amish novel that was simply impossible to put down, and I think this is her best one yet.

At age 16, Sadie Schrock is carrying bags of ice to her family's store when she is waylaid by a drunken Solomon Troyer, the bishop's eldest son, who drags her into a cornfield and accosts her. His younger brother, Aden, shows up but does nothing to help her and leaves. Luckily, she manages to knee him and get away, but she never tells a soul about it, fearing that no one will believe her. Flash forward 6 years. Sadie is still terrified of Sol, and still angry at Aden. She avoids all social occasions except for church. When tragedy strikes, killing her parents and seriously injuring her sister, it leaves Sadie, the eldest daughter, to deal with the aftermath alone.

Adding to her trauma, when she realizes that her father was deeply in debt, and that the hospital and rehab bills for her sister are piling up, she forces herself to ask Bishop Troyer for financial aid. He's a harsh, greedy man, and refuses to loan her money. He has a different solution, he wants Sadie to marry Sol--her worst nightmare. Aden comes to her rescue, offering to marry her instead, lying to his father and saying they'd been secretly courting, and Sadie is forced to accept what she considers the lesser of two evils.

What follows is a gripping tale that deals with tough issues, some of which are rarely seen in this genre--domestic abuse, alcoholism, greed, subterfuge, forgiveness, kindness, honesty and faith, and Ms. Fuller tackles them with great skill, sensitivity and grace. This new series is off to a great start.

A Reluctant Bride - Great read!

Kathleen Fuller has created another great and very interesting Amish book in A Reluctant Bride.

Abuse, both mental and physical, mental anguish, lies, secrets, deceitfulness by a church leader and many other issues which we don’t normally associate with the Amish lifestyle can be found in this book.

Lives are totally turned upside-down due to circumstances, not of their own doing, but created by others, family members included.

Will Sadie and Aden be able to overcome the horrors that have changed their lives, to accept love, peace, and contentment through God’s grace?

This inspirational book is one you won’t want to put down until you have finished reading the entire book. I highly recommend this book to anyone that loves to read this genre of books.

Deeper, darker themes than I expected

Not your average Amish life novel! Not that I've read a ton of them. In fact, most I've read have been those I've been sent for review from publishers or ones my mother requested I read. But yeah, of the small stack I've covered, this one has one of the more unique plots I've come across, and incorporates some darker themes not typically addressed in this type of novel.

Let me start off by warning sensitive readers that this book does open with a scene of sexual assault. Not full-on rape, but there is extremely aggressive kissing from a guy that won't take no for an answer.

Sadie Schrock is an Amish teen running an errand for her parents (who own the local general store) one day when she is accosted by Bishop Emmanuel Troyer's eldest son, Sol. Sol is clearly drunk and keeps trying to make advances toward Sadie, which understandably makes her extremely uncomfortable. Sol's younger brother Adan walks up on the scene, senses Sol is up to something bad, but quickly becomes too frightened to fight off his older brother, Instead he chooses to run off, leaving Sadie to fend for herself. Sadie gets yanked into a nearby cornfield where Sol tries to carry out a forceful gropefest, until Sadie finds opportunity to bite & kick her way to being free of him.

Six years later, everyone is in their 20s now. Sol is still a hot-tempered, sexually frustrated alcoholic, Adan's still guilt ridden over his cowardice, and Sadie is still struggling with emotional scars from the attack. Her parents want her to marry but Sadie cannot bring herself to be at ease around any men. Her mother basically forces her into attending a party but Sadie is floored when she finds out the party is being held at the Troyer home. Sadie manages to make a brief appearance before the anxiety gets to be too much and she has to go home. Shortly after the night of the party, Sadie's parents are killed in a traffic accident. Sadie, being the eldest, is left to take over the running of the store and family finances, which she comes to discover are waaaay in the red. When she goes to the bishop to ask for financial help from the community funds, his bright idea is for her to marry Sol, but the reader comes to find out that the bishop has his own less than honorable intentions for wanting the marriage. Seeing this as his moment to remedy past wrongs, Adan steps up and says Sadie already promised herself to him. Sadie obviously has her reasons to hate either match, but with limited choices, agrees to marry Adan. But how does one make it work with someone who so painfully wronged her when she most needed help?

I went into this pretty much expecting your typical Amish romance but was pleasantly surprised at how much deeper it turned out to be. This story tackles such topics as the power a sincere apology can have; finding strength to go against what you've been taught your entire life when you realize those teachings are actually based in ignorance or prejudice; struggles with alcoholism and why some people are driven to self medicate emotional wounds; and allowing people who have wronged you the opportunity to change (in turn allowing yourself to let go of the hateful feelings towards them). The story also looks at suspicious behavior among church officials, which brings up the topic of what do we do when the people we put on pedestals let us down?

The romance unfolds pretty much the way you would expect, it was more the other themes that led me to give this one a four star rating. I'd say if you've liked this type of story in the past and would like to try them again, but have maybe become burnt out by the same ol' plots being churned out in recent years, this might be a good one to try out as a refresher.

POTENTIAL TRIGGER WARNING: As I mentioned above, this book does open with a scene of sexual assault. Also, two of the characters later on in the story reveal that they were victims of child abuse.

The Author makes a very clear effort in getting to straight to the point

The Author makes a very clear effort in getting to straight to the point. I work as a Software developer/quality analyst and familiar with C#, MVC, JavaScript, bootstrap framework, and SQL so the only new topic for me here was the knockout.js library. I saw other previous comments prior to purchasing this book that almost changed my opinion but i'm glad that i went through with the purchase. I have been through the first five chapters and it took about an hour. The information is VERY light and the does not explain. A suggestion to other potential buyers: To be able to fully enjoy the book and what the author brings to the table you will most definitely need to be familiar with at least one object oriented programming language and also be familiar with at least one database management language...so if you are a beginner looking for extensive detail and explanation on specific topics this book may not be for you. Otherwise the book is a breeze the author does not waste time on things that i already know and explains a little bit of everything clear and concisely. As i've only quickly gone through a few chapters, i will update this if my opinion changes. For now...5 stars!
UPDATE: Ok, i have gone through a better part of the book and noticed some minor annoyances for example in chapter 5, after creating examples 5-2, 5-3, and 5-4 you will receive an error in 5-3 similar to "...does not contain a definition for 'HtmlConvertToJson' and no definition..." this is because the author did not specify that you are missing the directive "@using BootstrapIntroduction.Extension" in your index.cshtml...this will lead to a few more errors like the unhandled self referencing loop in the HtmlHelperExtension.cs file. You should be able to figure it out but if your follow the examples directly, you will run into some trouble. Downgraded to 3 stars for incorrect examples

Best book to learn ASP.Net for experienced .Net developpers

This book is perfect if you are an experienced .Net developer, and wants to learn to build websites with ASP.Net.
Building a website now days is complex because it involved many technologies . With ASP.Net alone , you ll go nowhere. You need to add some Html, some CSS, some JavaScript, some Bootstrap, some Knockout . This book shows how to knit all those technologies together. And that is very valuable. In addition to those technologies, he introduces some librairies from Nuget ( ie : EntityFramework , Linq.Dynamic, ...). By the end, you ll have a coherent set of librairies to build a web site. Clearly, the author made some choices here . But as a whole they make sense.
As others reviews said , sometimes the code examples are a little off . But for an experience developers, that would not be an issue.
Don't expect to go deep in each of these technologies. It's a short book. It gives you the key to continue by yourself.
The book was published in May 2015 . As of October 2016, it is still up-to-date.
Definitely , one of the best IT book I read over the last years. Not for beginner !

Pretty disappointing.

I'm very frustrated with this book. After completing chapter 8, the application doesn't work properly. After wasting days trying to troubleshoot, I went in search of the code to download, which I found on a github repo. I cloned the repo and loaded the project in Visual Studio. Turns out the problems I was having are IN THE PROJECT still. That means the tutorials in this book just don't work, in the end and you're left to figure it out, which I gave up on. I learned very little with this book, except how to use KnockoutJS, which is pretty cool but there are free tutorials on how to use it. The author flies through the chapters with little explanation. It seems you're meant to just copy down the code and then it doesn't even work. While I wouldn't say don't buy this book, I'll say don't buy it if you're looking for a beginning to intermediate book on ASP.NET MVC, this book isn't for you. It expects you to know MVC very well.
