About the Author
Greg Wientjes, Ph.D., was awarded his Stanford doctoral degree (Developmental and Psychological Sciences) in 2010. Wientjes attended Singularity University (2009), which was cofounded by technology genius, Ray Kurzweil, and that experience served as the inspiration for this book. Dr. Wientjes completed his Master's of Science in Electrical Engineering (2006) and his Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics (2004), both from Stanford.

Canadian cookbook will make you want to cook healthier!

This Canadian author has some GREAT ideas for branching out of the daily ho hum cooking we often do. I stumbled on it when renting a condo in Arizona, and came home missing the book. There are a few super recipes to add to your weekly meals that will step up the way you eat. This gal has great tips along the way, and the book makes it clear that she has been teaching cooking. Well worth the amazon price.

Clear and concise guide

I really didn't know much about hypnosis / self-hypnosis before reading this guide. I had been talking to some friends about the level of stress I had been feeling lately and someone brought up self-hypnosis as a way of dealing with it.

I didn't even know that hypnosis could be used to treat such things. Anyway I ended up searching for a guide that would help teach me what I would need to know to do this effectively. It took some searching but, I found this guide and was really happy with it. Everything is laid out logically and there is a lot of actionable advice that I've been able to put to use.

The guide contains a lot of other sections not relating to stress that may be useful in other situations.

Hypnosis is a double-edged sword.

This book about hypnosis provided interesting facts about the topic, background complete with a timeline; its different types and benefits; self-hypnosis and more related topics. The author’s voice shifts from academic boring to self help and very inconsistent so she failed to connect to me as a reader. I loved the book cover, it looks interesting so I was drawn to read it. I also liked that the author provided the origins of hypnotism. For entertainment purposes, it was fine. But for educational purposes, I’d appreciate citations for the studies mentioned to give it a more accurate take than mere conjectures. As a guide for beginners, it’s a good introductory book to hypnosis. Mastery of the techniques for hypnosis, mind control, manipulation, and more by just reading this book is debatable. The background history became a little close to boring because it’s too long. The chapter about the risks of hypnosis should have been in the earlier part of the book and the conclusion is more like a part of the disclaimer.
A word of caution: self-hypnosis is okay to alleviate one’s stress to manageable levels. To start hypnotizing another person without proper training is another thing. You might open a can of worms you are not ready to deal with which can lead to more trauma to the person involved. I recommend it to people just wanting to read about hypnosis. But do not be deceived by the title, you will not be a master after reading it. It may lead you to more questions, so it’s up to you!

I have learnt a lot on Hypnosis, while reading this book. I earlier knew that Hypnosis is one of the tools used by psychologist in treating their patients, but reading this book showed me much more to hypnosis. The main use of hypnosis is in hypnotherapy which is the use of hypnosis for therapeutic purposes. In this process, the state achieved after hypnotism can be used as a way to attain a progressive type of relaxation. It can be used for treating physical, psychological or emotional disorders. Examples are; eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, stammering and tension.
Hypnosis is a process by which a person reaches a state of consciousness that is enhanced in such a way so that your focus will increase while other awareness's are decreased. About the Author

David Planchard is the founder of D&M Education LLC. Before starting D&M Education, he spent over 27 years in industry and academia holding various engineering, marketing, and teaching positions. He holds five U.S. patents. He has published and authored numerous papers on Machine Design, Product Design, Mechanics of Materials, and Solid Modeling. He is an active member of the SOLIDWORKS Users Group and the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE). David holds a BSME, MSM with the following professional certifications: CCAI, CCNP, CSDA, CSWSA-FEA, CSWP, CSWP-DRWT and SOLIDWORKS Accredited Educator. David is a SOLIDWORKS Solution Partner, an Adjunct Faculty member and the SAE advisor at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in the Mechanical Engineering department. In 2012, David s senior Major Qualifying Project team (senior capstone) won first place in the Mechanical Engineering department at WPI. In 2014, 2015 and 2016, David s senior Major Qualifying Project team won the Provost award in Mechanical Engineering for design excellence.

Nice Cloud Computing Architecture Book Which Plays By The Rules

This book was extremely challenging to give a rating to. I've never really seen a book like this which is a purely architectural book. There is zero code in this book, and no mentions of any vendors such as Amazon or Azure. It is very high level and if you are looking for high level explanations only then this will be the perfect book.

On one hand there are lots of useful explanations and diagrams throughout the book which show cloud computing architectures. While the diagrams start simple, the writing assumes you are involved in Cloud Computing as there are many acronyms which the reader is assumed to know. I had to look up some of them on Wikipedia. There is a glossary in Appendix A to help though.

Each design pattern follows a specific explanation pattern which consists of: Problem, Solution, Application, and Mechanisms. Some patterns just cover 1 or 2 pages while some take up to 10 pages. A lot of times many of the patterns sounded similar with slight modifications to the diagrams. The sections were well designed to keep patterns in the proper categories.

I was wondering if the authors modeled this book off the original Design Patterns book by the "Gang of Four". What made that book great was the authors showed the design patterns but they also showed the languages and code examples. In Cloud Computing Design Patterns I get the sense the authors played it safe; never mentioning a vendor and never describing the insides of any component. At the end of the book I got the high level view, but I wanted more details on certain components.

The main reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 is I felt this book catered too much to the certification crowd, and it reads too much like a textbook. I would have preferred freestyle writing as opposed to putting every single pattern into the same boxed description.

Extremely superficial treatment, a complete disappointment.

This book was a complete disappointment, given some other reviews and the book ads themselves. I was looking for a book I could use as a backing reference for a grad/undergrad course on virtualization and cloud computing. It turned out to be a series of returning lists of basic facts, definitions and simple illustrations of step-by-step use cases and scenarios, everything treated in a very superficial fashion. Not really worth the time it took to browse over it.

Patternization of Cloud Computing

The destiny of any "Design Patterns" book is to be compared with the one written by GoF. And "Cloud Computing Design Patterns" lost this comparison. After reading this book you wouldn't have any intellectual insights, you wouldn't try applying these patterns everywhere (whether it's necessary or not). The book is too dry. Perhaps because it was created as result of Cloud Certified Professional courses.

It's not really inspiring description but please consider that this book is still very good introduction into Cloud technics and terminology. Considering that Clouds are still developing area of IT there are many people who will find this book useful starting point. Especially non-technical IT professionals, i.e. managers and analysts - because this book intentionally doesn't contain technical details.

So why 3 stars? After reading 1/3rd of this book I realised that it's an example of patternization (=>transforming of some knowledge area using design patterns formalism).
Indeed Design Patterns is a venerable phenomenon. The process of finding a pattern is a mixture of invention and observation. Design pattern can't be trivial - otherwise why do you need it?
This book contains around 100 design patterns - how is this possible? First of all I see certain duplication (e.g. patterns "Synchronised Operating State" and "Virtual Server Auto Crash Recovery" can be generalised), secondly there are many idioms or technics but not full fledged patterns (e.g. first pattern - Shared Resources).
One more observation - the author intentionally doesn't use established design pattern names. For instance pattern "Broad Access" from the book is just a well known pattern "Adaptor".

Wendy Wilson is just amazing when she tells a story

Wendy Wilson is just amazing when she tells a story. You are transported right into the world she brings. When her first book came out it had changed my life. The first book Take My Breath Away was told from Alyssa’s POV. This book is the second in the series and was from Judd’s POV.

While it was the same story you still felt like you were finding out new and exciting things about Judd and Alyssa. This book touched on things that were left unsaid in the first book. You defiantly won’t be disappointed.

I really love Wendy’s books and look forward to reading what she has coming next in the series.

Catch My Breath is Take My Breath Away but in Judd's POV. I absolutely loved it. To me it seemed like a completely different story than TMBA. There are things from Judd's POV that didn't happen in Alyssa's story. There are things that we learn along Judd's journey and answers to questions we were asking in the first book. Wendy does such an amazing job at grabbing your attention and putting the feels to ya. I know some don't like "same story different POV" but this isn't like that. There is more to the story than you think! Plus you get more Evan!!! And who doesn't want more Evan!! We love Evan!!

Read both books from this series, to say the least, each were spectacular. I cried like a baby reading "Take my breath away" and then catch my breath was a chance for the reader to understand where Judd came from and it gives you a whole new love for him. Definitely take the time to read these two books you won't be sorry. Can't wait to read Breathe with Me, Evans story. Also would love to know what happens with Tristan and Abby, I know there has to be a story with those two.

I have to agree with the other reviewers, this book is very handy, and easy to read. It covers quite a lot of ground for a pocket manual, which is great.

This is a handy book to keep in your tool box. It contains over 500 pages of useful information for the maintenance, machinist and electrcian. It covers mechanical, electrical and isometric drawings, machine installation, torque specifications, different bearings, vibration, lubrication, belts, pumps, fans, elecrticity, AC motors, shop mathmatics, geometry and trigonometry.

None of the subjects are given in great detail, but limited to key information. But Audel has other pocket guides dedicated to specific trades that should come in handy for a certain craft.

Foreword

Neurosurgical residency can be the most exciting and memorable experience of one’s life. Faced daily with patients who bestow their trust in us to solve their inherently unique and often challenging problems, we are given an ultimate responsibility that requires tireless commitment. An attempt to solve each problem requires a repertoire of knowledge, skills, and experience. A thorough knowledge of the clinical neurosciences and related disciplines is therefore a prerequisite. From a purely practical standpoint, this thorough knowledge is also required for successful completion of the primary certification process of the American Board of Neurological Surgery, and for the upcoming implementation of maintenance of certification whose successful periodic completion will become mandatory for practicing neurosurgeons.

Neurosurgical residency is also a challenging and demanding undertaking. The amount of knowledge required can appear daunting. A tremendous amount of time can be spent in attempting to collect and organize material from multiple sources including standard references encompassing the disciplines of neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, neurobiology, neurology, neuropathology, neuroradiology, neurosurgery and critical care medicine. This compromises the time available to learn the material.
